Silver jewellery is easy to wear, versatile and timeless. Unfortunately many of our sterling silver and silver plated pieces end up forgotten in our jewellery boxes because they've tarnished. Silver jewellery tarnishes or discolors over time because of reacting with oxygen or sulfur. You can prevent your jewellery from tarnishing by following these quick tips. But what about pieces that are already tarnished, is there a quick and easy way to restore their shine? Yes! And it's eco-friendly too! All you need is a couple of items you already have at home. HOW TO MAKE YOUR SILVER JEWELLERY SPARKLE AGAIN The beauty of this method is that it’s gentle and non-abrasive. Instead of removing the outer layer of metal, like a silver polish would, it uses a simple chemical reaction to just remove the tarnish leaving the silver intact. This makes it the perfect method for cleaning silver plated pieces as it won’t rub off the plating. So, are you ready? This is going to be fun! THE SCIENCE BEHINDAre you intrigued as to what happened? It's actually reversing the chemical reaction that made your silver tarnish in the first place. The tarnish develops as a chemical reaction when silver combines with sulfur. The baking soda and salt solution allow the sulfur to be removed from the silver and transferred to the aluminum. The chemical reaction is mild, but the results are astonishing! This method is easy, inexpensive and non-toxic and will restore the sparkle to your much loved silver pieces! TARNISH-RESISTANT SILVERArgentium sterling silver, fine silver and Rhodium finished pieces are naturally tarnish resistant and will require less cleaning.
